| FreeThe Diary of Samuel Sewall: a narrative of death, burial, and memorialization in Colonial New England
Thursday, September 26, 2024
7-8 PM @ the Captain Bangs Hallet House Museum
In keeping with their mission, which includes educational opportunities for volunteers, The Friends of Ancient Cemetery will host a series of three slide-illustrated talks and follow-up conversations this fall at the Captain Bangs Hallet House.
Laurel Gabel, with Tony Jarek-Glidden as the voice of Samuel Sewall, will begin this series of conversations with an illustrated presentation on Boston colonial merchant and judge Samuel Sewall, and his famous diary. He is perhaps best remembered for his role as a judge in the infamous Salem witch trials of 1692. His diary noted many colonial burials along with descriptions of the Puritan funeral and burial process.
This free event will be held at the Captain Bangs Hallet House Museum located at 11 Strawberry Lane, Yarmouth Port, MA 02675.
