“The earth from a great distance is perfect and whole. But this is an order foreign to the heart, and to love the earth you must come closer.” – Carson McCullers, “Clock Without Hands”
Poetry attempts to illuminate the ordinary. In this workshop with writer and poet Marjorie Block, we will focus on the commonplace, or what we tend to overlook. The little things. At the same time, we’ll be reading and listening to the words of outstanding poets – Lucille Clifton and Li-Young Lee, among others – who will inspire us to see more clearly the world around us. And we will write – inside and outside – and listen to the songs of each other.
