In this meditation course, the instructor will use verbal prompts to help students notice physical sensations, emotions, and thoughts without getting caught up in them. Each session begins with gentle stretching, followed by a guided meditation, and ends with a chance to reflect on the experience in a safe, respectful group setting. Sharing is always voluntary. Meditation is one way to develop a mindfulness practice. Mindfulness in this course is viewed as paying attention to what is happening in the moment, externally and internally, with kindness and curiosity. Studies suggest that mindfulness practices may help people manage stress, cope better with serious illness and reduce anxiety and depression. Many people who practice mindfulness report an increased ability to relax, a greater enthusiasm for life, and improved self-esteem (source: National Institute of Health).

This class meets in the Saben Board room.
