A long time sailor, Joan Hall uses her paper based works to initiate a conversation about ocean advocacy concerning primarily plastic pollution. She is drawn to the tension between control and surrender. Her sculptural works use rich textures and vibrant colors to crate constructions that are reminiscent of undulating currents, algae bloom, and coral reefs creating a vast ocean of meaning symbolism and emotion and ultimately our relationship to the sea. If we listen to the ocean we can hear it sobbing beckoning us to take action.
