Beyond the Mayflower: Plymouth’s Maritime Heritage
Join us for a lively presentation with Anne Mason, Ph.D. on the maritime heritage of Plymouth and the Southshore and the changing landscape over the years.
ABOUT ANNE MASON:
Born and raised in Plymouth, Anne C. Mason received her Ph.D. in the History of American
Civilization from the University of Delaware in 2015. Her research interests include 20th-
century commemorations of the colonial past and the politics behind memorial
landscapes. Portions of her dissertation have been published in scholarly journals and
book anthologies. While living in Delaware, Dr. Mason worked at Winterthur Museum, one of
the nation’s premier collections of American decorative arts, and completed graduate training in
museum studies. She returned to her hometown in 2016 to lead the Plymouth Antiquarian
Society as Executive Director, a position she left in 2024 to begin a new career in motherhood.
Dr. Mason serves as Vice Chair of Plymouth’s Historic District Commission and strives to be a
voice for historic preservation locally.
