Get that screenplay you’ve been thinking about out of your head and onto paper with writer and producer Audrey Chevannes! The goal of this 3-day intensive workshop is to write the first five pages, giving your project some momentum and getting your brilliant idea off to a solid start! The Basics of Screenwriting will cover:

  1. Elements of an opening scene
  2. Creating conflict
  3. Genre
  4. Premise
  5. Introducing the protagonist
  6. The narrative world
  7. Dialogue
  8. Formatting
  9. Students produce/revise first 5 pages
  10. Students share and critique the work

Whether you’ve got a first draft or just an idea, this workshop is the first step towards making your screenplay a reality! Prior to the start of the workshop, participants are asked to do a little homework: review your favorite movie as a writing exercise, and decide on a genre for your screenplay — this will help you arrive focused and ready to write. The workshop is 9am-12pm, and Audrey will give you assignments to work on independently. Bring a notebook or laptop to class, and get ready to launch your own screenplay!

Audrey Chevannes is an award-winning writer and producer. She holds an MFA from Emerson and resides in Cummaquid, MA.
