Indigenous History Walk/Talk:  Pre-Contact Period-1800

The Historical Society of Old Yarmouth invites you to join Nipmuc-Wampanoag, Waban Webquish (Marcus Hendricks), and local historian, Bob Kelley, on this guided, one-mile, Native American Talk/Walk program along HSOY’s Thacher Trail. Discussions will range from the Woodland Period through 200 years after the Contact Period, and cover such topics as hunting, fishing, domestic life, and local Native American, Thomas Greenough – one of the “Praying Indians” and last of the Nobscusset Tribe to live here at Yarmouth. The walk will end at the Turtle Shade Arbor in the meadow by Kelley Chapel.

Fee:  $10 Members, $15 Non-Members

PLEASE NOTE:

  • This is a walking and discussion tour that will cover approximately 1 mile and take about 2 hours.
  • Tour is a light rain or shine event – please wear comfortable walking shoes and dress for the weather.
  • In the case of severe inclement weather, this event will be canceled or rescheduled. If needed, information will be communicated about this change via email 24 hours in advance.
  • Tour maximum is 30 people.
  • Online reservations close 1 hour prior to tour time (8:00 AM)
